Abkhazian IDPs Sent Appeal to the Leaders of Sokhumi Regime

February 1, 2010

The IDPs from Abkhazia sent a special appeal to the regime of Sokhumi de- facto government. Gia Baramia, the head of Abkhazia Autonomous Republic handed the appeal to the officials of Sokhuni de-facto regime on January 28 in Geneva, on the 9th round of international negotiations.

The appeal stated that IDPs left Abkhazia before the so-called presidential elections in Sokhumi and arrived in Tbilisi. The IDPs state they cannot be indifferent to the Russian occupation regime towards in Abkhazia. They think Russia occupied the territory in accordance to the previously worked out plan and now they try with “their dirty hands” to destroy Abkhazian people finally.

“Our ancestors left wonderful language and traditions to us, which we have to pass to our descendents. However, it is clear that we cannot realize our dream alone, if we do not unify with our Georgian brothers, whose ancestors were against the deportation of Muhajirs”, it is said in the appeal.

It is also mentioned in the appeal that common enemy inspired the conflict in 1992-1993 and today anybody knows that neither Abkhazia and nor Georgia had similar military armament to launch the war. The authors of the appeal state that Russia supplied both sides of the conflict with weapons.

“Today Abkhazia is occupied, militarized and entirely controlled by Russia. That is why we Abkhazians receive only one-sided information which is prepared by Russian media subordinated to Special Forces of Russia. Today we live in Tbilisi, where we heard and felt what the democracy is. There is no corruption here; the criminal world is entirely destroyed, the rights of people are defended. What is the most important, Georgians are not against Abkhazian people, on the contrary the situations is very peaceful and they want to reach agreement, which is steadied by the official position of Georgian government”, stated Abkhaz IDP s from Abkhazia.

They want other Abkhazians living in Abkhazia “to relieve and not to be afraid of future”. The authors of appeal think agreement, unification and coexistence of Georgian and Abkhaz peoples is possible. 11 people signed the appeal.

12 Abkhaz families left Abkhazia for different reasons during recent several months.
