Chief Prosecutor’s Office States Number of Crimes Reduced in 2009

Analytic department of the chief prosecutor’s office of Georgia published statistic data of the registered crimes in 2009. According to the prosecutor’s office analyze was varied out throughout Georgia. According to the official data, in comparison to 2008, the number of crimes committed in 2009 reduced at 3, 1 %; among them number of grave crimes reduced at 26 %.

The number of crimes on 10 000 people throughout Georgia was 4 unit less than in 2008.

It is noteworthy, that most common crime – thievery mostly happens in Tbilisi, Western Georgia, Adjara Autonomous Republic, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region and Kakheti region; however, their number has reduced at 16, 3 % in comparison with the previous year.

The index of preliminary investigation also reduced at such widely-spread crimes such as pillage – at 14 %, robbery – at 34 %; hooliganism – at 21 %; illegal restriction of freedom – 19, 4 %.

The number of such grave crimes like – premeditated murder was reduced at 40, 4 %, attempted premeditated murder – at 22 %, premeditated murder in grave circumstances – at 52 %.

In comparison with 2008, the number of robbery reduced at 17 units (28, 8 %) and slander at 11 units (68, 8 %).
