Tsiskarishvili Confirmed Negotiations with Occupants about Explosion of Stalin’s Statue

April 8, 2010

Leader of the parliamentary majority Petre Tsiskarishvili confirmed that chairman of the parliamentary committee of defense and security Givi Targamadze negotiated with the occupants about explosion of Stalin’s statue.

“Givi Targamadze talked with Russian generals about this issue when he was directly involved in the release of captured soldiers and when opposition leaders were hiding behind bushes,” said Tsiskarishvili at the plenary session of the parliament. The main topic of the discussion at the plenary session was interview of Vano Merabishvili with Russian newspaper Kommersant.

Minister of Internal Affairs Merabishvili said that Givi Targamadze had offered large sum to Russian soldiers for the explosion of Stalin’s statue in Gori; however, the statue turned up very precious for them and they did not agree.

“When Russian army was destroying Georgian villages and towns, Stalin’s statue turned up the only holly thing for them in Georgia,” said Tsiskarishvili.

Givi Targamadze does not want to comment on scandalous statements of Vano Merabishvili. On April 8, he appeared at the parliament in the second half of the day. News Agency “Pirveli” could not interview him but representative of his security guard got in touch with the agency; he said Targamadze does not have time to speak with media today.
