May 7, 2010
On May 6, residents of the Iormughanlo village in Sagarejo district held protest demonstration. About 500 people in front of the police station in the village demanded the release of the former village governor Kazantar Mamedov. The Human Rights Center reported about it.

The demonstrators reported to the human rights organization that the former village governor was detained for abusing his power two months ago.

“He was collecting land payments among population according to the orders of the district governor and was detained for that reason. If it was illegal action why he was ordered to do it? Now he is demanded to pay money for plea-bargain but he cannot afford it. Yesterday, more than 300 people from the village went to Sagarejo and wanted to meet he district governor but he did not meet us. We asked him to arrive in the village today but he refused,” said the resident of Iormughanlo village Mubaris Mamedov.

Villagers threaten with permanent protest demonstrations unless their requests are satisfied immediately.
