People in Military Uniforms Seized Posters from the Activists of the National Council

May 20, 2010
Representatives of the National Council stated that when their two activists were putting up election posters in Batumi at 3:00 am on May 19, strange people approached them and seized the posters.

Zaur Solomonidze is a single mandate candidate of the National Council in Aghmashenebeli Street.  He said the strangers were driving a white jeep. “Patrol Police” was written on the car. The armed people in military uniform got of the car and seized about 60 posters from our activists.”

The activists do not have photo or video materials of the incident.

Head of the Batumi office of the People’s Party Jumber Tavartkiladze connects the incident with the government. “We are not members of the ruling party, so we are not equipped with photo and video-cameras in advance. The ruling party intends to fail the pre-election campaign. Besides seizing the posters, the strangers threatened the activists and torn the posters which were already put up.”
