May 21, 2010
The National Movement demands the businessmen to pay money for the pre-election campaign. Otherwise, they are threatened with detention. The Human Rights Center spread the information about the fact.

According to the human rights organization, several businessmen stated in private conversation with the regional coordinators that they were called to the law enforcement agencies and requested to fund the pre-election campaign of the ruling party.

“We were told that unless we pay the money on time, we would share the fate of Papunashvili, Makhatelashvili and others. The starting amount of money they requested from each businessman is 20 000 GEL and it depends on the income of the company,” the businessmen told the Human Rights Center.

“According to the checked information, several businessmen were detained though there is no official document on their detention. They were released after paying the money,” the representatives of the human rights organization said.
