Vladimir Putin: “Some People Think that South Ossetia Is Occupied, Others Think It Is Liberated”

July 6, 2010
Vladimir Putin calls on Georgian government to start dialogue with Tskhinvali. News Agency Itar-Tass reported that Putin made the statement during his visit to the Museum of the World War II on Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow.

"Some people think South Ossetia is occupied, others think it is liberated," Putin stated commenting on Clinton’s speech in Tbilisi.

‘It is necessary to have dialogue without the third country. We did not start this war and the responsibility lies on the one who launched it. They must be brave and find a way to the people’s hearts they have wounded,” stated the prime-minister of Russia.

He says that Russia, like the rest international community, has the role of guarantor.

According to the reports of the Itar-Tas, US State Secretary Hillary Clinton declared during her visit in Tbilisi that US supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and expects Russian occupation to be terminated.

Zurab Noghaideli and Mikheil Khubutia were on Poklonnaya Gora when Putin made the statement.
