Magharo Residents to Block Sighnaghi-Tbilisi Motorway

October 20, 2010
Residents of the village of Magharo in Sighnaghi district, who have not been supplied with electricity for 8 days already, intend to block the Sighnaghi-Tbilisi motorway in protest. The locals reported to the Kakheti News Center that they have paid the electricity bills but the Kakheti Region Electricity Distribution Company demands them to pay additional bills.

“We visited the Tsnori service-center of the Kakheti region Electricity Distribution Company several times and requested them to find out why additional bills are imposed on us. The Company has been robbing us for many years already. Let them come and find out who is stealing electricity. Do their electricity meters work properly? They write whatever they want. People hardly earn their living; we buy macaroni, oil and salt for grant and they extort 10, 15 and 20 GEL every month,” complained the residents of Magharo village.

Spokesperson of the JSC Kakheti Region Electricity Distribution Company Zhana Didebashvili stated that the population of the Magharo village has not completely covered their bills. “Based on the resolution of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission the subscribers should pay electricity bills according to communal meters. The Company cannot employ enough people to control every electricity meter in the region. We cannot control it,” said Didebashvili.
