British Teacher Sues Georgian Media

November 11, 2010
British teacher of English language Thomas Fletcher intends to sue Georgian media sources. He blames the national media in spreading disinformation about him. The minister of education and science of Georgia Dimitry Shashkin spread information about it.

Georgian media-sources published Fletcher’s photos from his personal page in the social network Facebook. The photos were published under headline: “Sexual Games of Thomas and His Friends.”

“These photos were falsified. However, it is fact that Thomas Fletcher was blamed in homosexuality. The foreign teachers intend to sue the Georgian media in spreading disinformation. Unfortunately, there are people in our country who are ready to destroy everything; it is very bad,” said the minister.

According to Shashkin, he personally apologized to Fletcher for the incident.

Two-year-long program of the ministry of education and science “Learn and Teach with Georgia” started on March 1, 2010. Thomas Fletcher is one of the participants of the program. The program aims to invite 1 000 native speaker volunteer teachers to Georgia.
