Merab Chikashvili, Giorgi Kharabadze and Archil Chikovani Continuing Hunger Strike

March 31, 2011

Merab Chikashvili, Giorgi Kharabadze and Archil Chikovani detained at the protest rally held on March 25th in front of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance have been on hunger strike for five days now.

The corresponding statement was made by the representative of the movement “Ratom” (why) Natia Kobalia and a leader of “Ena, Mamuli, Sartsmunoeba” (Tongue, homeland, faith) Lado Sanghlobelashvili.

According to them, Chikashvili, Kharabadze and Chikovani have been on hunger strike for five days now.
According to Natia Kobalia, the protest of the detainees is predetermined by the fact that they are deprived of daily press and religious literature and have no means to keep private hygiene.

According to Lado Sadghobelashvili, all three detainees are fasting and the law allows them to have the literature necessary for their religion.

Lado Sadghobelashvili and Natia Kobalia called on government to pay attention to this fact and ensure the means of private hygiene in the cell and provide religious literature and daily press for the prisoners.
