Parliament to Adopt Public Defender’s Report as a Notification

The Parliament of Georgia will pass a resolution on Public Defender’s 2010 report on June 17th at a plenary session; the Parliament Chair Davit Bakradze stated the corresponding at the plenary sitting after discussing the report.

The opposition party Christian-Democrats prepared a resolution project which contains certain recommendations according to which the relevant bodies need to start investigation on the facts mentioned in the report.

As the head of the Human Rights Committee Lasha Tordia stated the parliamentary majority does not share the resolution project prepared by the opposition. Accordingly, on June 17th they will vote on the resolution project prepared by the majority.

The resolution project prepared by majority states that the report of Public Defender will be passed as a notification.

It should be noted that the Public Defender Giorgi Tughushi gave a speech on human rights situation for the year of 2010 in half empty hall.

There were only 39 deputies in the hall of session during the discussion. In several minutes this number decreased to 28.

Before discussing Public Defender’s report, the deputies voted on several draft laws. During this time, 82 deputies registered in the session hall for voting.
