Incident in Free Canteen in Dedoplistskaro

December 7, 2011

A new incident occurred in the free canteen of the Dedoplistskaro district. One of the beneficiaries of the canteen reported to the ICK that he complained about little and poor quality food and the director threatened him with expelling from the canteen and called the police to frighten him.

“Yesterday I complained about bread. They usually serve food without oil; generally they cook badly. I even warned them I would appeal to the Chamber of Control. Deputy Director of the Canteen Tsitso Darchiashvili insulted me, and then called police alleging I had caused disorder as an intriguer. The police officers and Darchiashvili both warned me to stop visiting the canteen if I did not like the food. They threatened me to keep silence. Tsitso Darchiashvili requested me to write explanation letter but I did not. She always threatens me with police and I always keep silence. The beneficiaries are afraid of the administration and nobody assists me when I start complaining and finally I turn up guilty; the same happened yesterday. Today I am afraid to go to the canteen. I am a lonely person and I have nobody to buy food for me,” Mzia Garsenishvili said.

Tsitso Darchiashvili denied accusations of the beneficiary.

“Mzia Garsenishvili did not like the bread we had in the canteen. Food is always properly cooked in our canteen. She wanted to take a loaf of bread from our storage but I did not allow her because it was unethical. So, she insulted me and caused disorder. She threatened us with the Chamber of Control. I called the police to calm down the situation and the police officers suggested her to calm down. I did not insult Mzia Garsenishvili at all,” said Tsitso Darchiashvili.

Previous incident in the Dedoplistskaro free canteen occurred in October. The cook hit a jug in the head of one of the beneficiaries Madona Ghviniashvili and the beneficiaries requested to fire the director Nugzar Makharashvili for the incident.

Head of the finance-budget department at the Dedoplistskaro district administration Tamriko Mateshvili reported that the free canteen has 185 beneficiaries and the local budget had allocated 145 000 GEL for their nutrition in 2011.
