Mother of Dead Prisoner Claims Her Son Was Tortured to Death

September 25, 2012

After horrifying videos of torture and inhuman treatment were aired, resident of Mukhuri village in Chkhorotsku district Luiza Sichinava, whose son Giorgi Tolordava, 20, died in Gldani Prison # 8, informed society about one more shocking crime on September 21. She showed photos demonstrating torture of her son in the election office of Levan Izoria, Georgian Dream’s majoritarian candidate in Chkhorotsku.

Luiza Sichinava said her son Giorgi Tolordava was killed by torture. However, MIA notified to her that her son had committed suicide. Sichinava said at the briefing that despite warning from the MIA, she secretly took photos of his tortured body and saved them. She disclosed those photos during the briefing.

Luiza Sichinava said her 20-year-old son was arrested on December 14, 2007. Twenty days later the family learned about his death but official version alleged he had committed suicide.

Sichinava said after Bacho Akhalaia resigned from the position of the Minister of Interior she defeated fear and uncovered this fact. “What crime did my son commit that he was killed by torture? I demand to hold Akhalaia responsible for the death of my son,” Luiza Sichinava said.
