Miners on Strike Offered 32% Rise in Salaries

October 31, 2012

On October 29, deputy director general of the Georgian Manganese Genadi Tikva met strikers in Itkhvisi mine. He spoke about problems in the company management and said he was ready to resolve problems in near future.

“Eight different commissions were established and each of them studies current situation in the company. 32% rise in your salaries is the only proposal we can make to you today and the company can really do it. Georgian Manganese cannot afford to increase your salaries at 100% at this moment,” Genadi Tikva said.

This proposal was not acceptable for strikers. They are not going to leave the tunnel until their requests are completely satisfied.

Secretary General of the Social Democrat Party Gela Bandzeladze and students of the state university also attended the meeting. They saw the company general manager of the mine tunnel with shouting: “Solidarity with workers!”
