Kutaisi Youth Request Ownership of Government-Owned Building

January 15, 2013

“We believe we have a public government. If this is true, it should stand on our side and give us this building, which has no current function and is closed,” stated the initiative group set up by representatives of youth nongovernmental organizations in Kutaisi.

Young residents of Kutaisi request ownership of this building, located in the parliamentary city;  reportedly, the new government declared the so-called glassy palace functionless in November 2012 and officially closed it.

“Kutaisi is a city with huge traditions, not to mention the status it has lately received, but it has no youth center. Local youth have no opportunities to develop and promote their skills. We believe it would be good if the aforementioned building were assigned to us so that we could give it a new function,” said Shalva Kamladze, the head of the initiative group.

The initiative group has already discussed the issue with members of the local government. Soon, they will appeal to the Prime Minister of Georgia with the same request.
