Guram Donadze Was Charged for Buta Robakidze’s Case

February 8, 2013
Former head of press-center at the MIA Guram Donadze was charged under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. His lawyer Kakha Shonia told journalists about it in front of the prosecutor’s office.

This article envisages liability for the abuse of power. As Shonia clarified, Guram Donadze was accused in Buta Robakidze’s case. The lawyer said he has not studied case materials yet because of its volume but according to preliminary information Donadze was accused of giving instructions to the cameraman to video-record weapon planted in the scene of crime.

Additionally, Kakha Shonia stated that Guram Donadze is not going to hide from the justice and will arrive in Georgia to make testimony. The lawyer did not say where Guram Donadze is. Besides that, as Shonia clarified, after imposing the charge, Tbilisi City Court will presumably impose preventive measure on Guram Donadze. The lawyer assumes the prosecutor’s office will request imprisonment as a preventive measure against Donadze.

“We expect the prosecutor’s office to request imprisonment as a preventive measure against Donadze but we will request to decline all preventive measures against him,” Kakha Shonia said.

He said Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Georgia envisages imprisonment from 5 to 8 years.

Guram Donadze is not in Georgia at this moment.
