Railway Workers on Strike in Zestaponi

February 19, 2013

Railway workers went on strike in Zestaponi. They demand to improve their working conditions and 100% increase in their salaries.

Approximately 50 people protested. They complained about these problems during previous government too, but never held protest demonstrations then.

“We wanted to protest during previous government too, but they used to threaten us with firing from work; so we kept silence. We urge to Bidzina Ivanishvili to get interested in our problems and hope, he will help us,” strikers said.

Railway workers on strike demand to improve working conditions, sanitary-hygiene norms, special uniforms and increase in their salaries. Their average salary is 400 GEL. According to strikers, if their demands are not satisfied, they will continue demonstrations.
