“Georgian Manganese” workers again on strike

February 19, 2013

Workers of Chiatura mine went on strike again. The reason of their renewed protest is their 15 unfulfilled requirements. Besides that, the factory administration is going to reduce personnel.

Strikers said, administration of the Georgian Manganese is presumably going to reduce 500-800 workers. 3700 workers are employed in the mines at present. Representatives of the administration talk about the increase of salaries.

“Despite reduction, the administration of the Georgian Manganese is not going to reduce production and plans to delegate the work of fired miners on others. In exchange of that, the workers will receive increased salaries; so, they are not going to satisfy our request to increase salaries but they increase our work in parallel to the salaries,” strikers said.

Workers on strike from the Georgian Manganese will go back to their working places when their 15 requests are satisfied. They request improved working conditions, better nourishment, better sanitary conditions and days-off on public holidays.
