Guria Counts Results of Natural Disaster

Furious natural disaster significantly damaged Guria region on September 1. Humanrights.ge was informed from all three district authorities that they are estimating exact amount of the damage caused by natural disaster at this moment.

Strong wind and heavy rain significantly damaged Guria region again. Head of region emergency service Shalva Bolkvadze said the wind tore off trees in Shekvetili village, dozens of cars were damaged and central motorway was blocked.

“Later on the traffic movement restored. As for the overall result, mostly the coastline area was damaged,” Bolkvadze said. 

According to Shalva Bokvadze, rescue service received 20 calls from Ozurgeti district and 14 calls from Lanchkhuti district. Because of storm, dozens of houses were roofed off in Ozurgeti; electricity poles and roads were also damaged.

The natural disaster damaged population in Shroma, Natanebi, Silauri and Guranti villages. Ozurgeti district interim governor Kote Sharashenidze said the disaster significantly damaged Natanebi village – the basement of one house was absolutely ruined.

Storm removed roofs from houses in Shroma village. Because of cut-off electricity supply, Tbilisi-Ozurgeti train was stopped in Nigoeti village during five hours. 

The natural disaster significantly damaged Ozurgeti village in Ozurgeti district. The storm at night damaged central gas pipe-line – the rooted out trees fell on it.

Ozurgeti village attorney Valerian Jincharadze said the village was significantly damaged.

“Little children spent all night in the roofed-off house in one family. I am sorry for them but cannot assist them with funds yet. As you see the central pipe-line was also damaged,” Jincharadze said.

Trees are scattered on the roads, the village was not supplied with electricity during several hours. Almost every village was damaged as a result of natural disaster in Lanchkhuti district. Heavy rain demolished the outfall construction of the drinking water and the town and surrounding villages were not supplied with drinking water.

Population was victimized by the natural disaster in all 16 territorial entities. Domestic animals were killed, houses were damaged. Bridges and protection jetties are in poor conditions in the villages. 

Lanchkhuti district interim governor Zaza Urushadze also visited victimized population.

Flooded rivers Majakhura and Lashisgele created serious problems for the residents of Mamati and Kvemo Mamati villages.

Internal roads and roads to village cemeteries were blocked. Particularly hard situation is in Nigvziani and in Khajalia villages. Water flew into houses and the level reached one meter. About 20 families were significantly damaged in Nigvziani. 

These data was collected by infrastructure service of the Lanchkhuti district administration. Service specialist Mikheil Oragvelidze said they are still calculating the damage. Deputy Minister of infrastructure Shota Murgulia also visited Lanchkhuti district. He visited the villages too and promised victimized people to help.
