City Council Denies Giving Bonuses

August 7, 2014

Shorena Kakabadze, Kutaisi

Law of Georgia on Civil Service is planned to be amended. According to the amendments, bonuses will not be given to the senior officials holding political posts. The author of the initiative is the member of parliamentary majority Tinatin Khidasheli. According to her explanation, “it is not essential for the mayors and governors, city council deputies, parliament members or other government officials to receive bonuses every month.”

While talking about bonuses, Khidasheli mentioned Kutaisi city council. The representatives of council responded with a statement.

“Members of Kutaisi city council have not received bonuses. However, there is nothing wrong in receiving bonuses for the deserved service. The main thing is that the salaries and bonuses of any deputy or government official must be public,” – member of governing majority of Kutaisi City Council, Nato Katamadze states.

According to the decision of Kutaisi local government, members of city council will receive bonuses twice a year.

“If these people received bonuses three times a year up until now, from now on they will receive bonuses twice a year. In this way, we will economize 300 000 GEL in the city budget. This money will be used for far more important issues,” – The vice mayor of Kutaisi Nodar Mikiashvili states.
