Human Rights Center Finalized Several Cases at the European Court of Human Rights

October 21, 2014

Human Rights Center represented several citizens of Georgia at the European Court of Human Rights (Kobulidze v. Georgia; Japaridze v. Georgia; Marakvelidze v. Georgia). The applications were prepared on the violation of Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (prohibition of torture); more precisely Georgian state did not ensure adequate medical treatment for convicts.

In 2014 Georgian State admitted before the European Court that right to adequate medical care was breached in connection with the aforementioned convicts.

In the case Kobuladze v. Georgia the applicant and state signed friendly agreement and the state paid compensation of 1000 EURO (equivalent in Lari) to the applicant.

In the case Japaridze v. Georgia Georgian state admitted violation of the Article 3 of the European Convention, that is inadequate medical treatment of the convict; the state paid 4 500 Euro (equivalent in Lari).

In the case Marakvelidze v. Georgia Georgian state admitted violation of the Article 3 of the Convention, that is inadequate medical treatment of the convict and the state paid 4 500 Euro equivalent in Lari.

Human Rights Center welcomes the cooperation between the state and the victimized citizens and believes that similar examples will support restitution of justice and compensation process for victims.
