The Public Defender’s Office Awarded for Providing Access to Public Information in 2014

On February 12, 2015, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) announced the most accountable, as well as the most closed public institutions with respect to issuing public information.

According to the research, the Public Defender’s Office presented the best indicator of accessibility to public information and was awarded a special certificate for providing access to public information and most transparent work.

For years the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia has paid great attention to issues of freedom of information and also expresses its readiness for maximum opennes and activity in the future. “Such events will further encourage those agencies that issue information in full compliance with the law. It is important for all branches, all structures of the authorities to have a clear understanding that issuance of public information is required by the law”, - said Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili.

The report “Accessibility to public information in Georgia” is based on the practice of requesting public information by the institute. On the basis of concrete examples, the work presents real situation in Georgia and presents a reader with a clear picture of the existing practice of accessibility to public information.
