Kutaisi office of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association has new chairman. The 11th chairman of the local organization Giorgi Santuriani replaced Giorgi Tchikaberidze, who was elected for CEC member on February 4, 2015.

“Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association has years-long established clear vision, goals and strategic development plan. Due to this plan, all activity will naturally continue. We will try to further develop our goal – rule of law for justice, with innovations. In particular, we will try to promote qualified and non-stop legal education in different directions. It will include free legal consultations, training sessions, seminars, internship developments, debates, and promotion of effective, accountable and transparent governance,” Giorgi Santuriani said.

Center for the defense of the media legal interests is functioning in the GYLA’s Kutaisi Office, which has been operating since November 1996. So the local office works in this direction too.

"We have worked on many cases of concrete journalists. They do not cover only Kutaisi but also Samegrelo region too. We have issued legal consultations, and provided applicants with free legal aid. We have many positive achievements and they are usually reflected in our reports,” said Programs Director Nodar Jikia at the GYLA’s Kutaisi Office.

According to Jikia, one of the main priorities for the GYLA is protection of human rights and work on the issues of IDPs, trafficking, local self-governments and others.
