Court Acquitted Accused in the Assault on Police Officer

On May 6, 2015 Criminal Law Collegium at the Tbilisi City Court passed verdict and acquitted accused Giorgi Tsomaia in the assault on police officer; he was freed from the courtroom.

Tsomaia was accused of the assault on police officer because of his professional activities. Namely, on August 14, 2014 Giorgi Tsomaia attacked investigator of the Vake-Saburtalo district police unit of the MIA when he performed his professional activities; Tsomaia verbally and physically assaulted him and damaged his uniform.

The Court studied the evidence provided in the case, heard clarifications of the parties, testimonies of witnesses and concluded that evidence provided in the case and court survey did not create necessary grounds to find the accused person guilty. Consequently, the Court found Giorgi Tsomaia not guilty in the charge and freed him from the courtroom.

16 trials were conducted in the criminal case; 14 witnesses of the plaintiff side and 5 witnesses of the defense side were questioned. 

The court judgment can be appealed at the Tbilisi Appeal Court within 1 months after it is published by the Tbilisi City Court.
