Ministry of Internal Affairs started investigation into the death fact of an infant in Tsnori under Article 112 of the Criminal Code of Georgia that punishes infanticide with aforethought - premeditated murder of a new-born by the mother during or immediately after deliveries and is punishable by imprisonment from three to five years. Representative of the MIA press-center in Kakheti Shorena Jakhua said the body of the dead infant will be expertised to estimate death reasons.

According to the spread information the woman was hiding pregnancy and delivered the child at home alone. Locals said before delivery the husband had physically abused the woman.

Representative of the Signagi district administration in Signagi Tamaz Mateshvili told humanrights.ge it was not result of domestic violence.

“Husband of the woman is decent person and he would not have abused wife. The husband even did not know about pregnancy of his wife because she was hiding this fact from him. I do not have additional information about this fact; the investigation will estimate the truth,” Tamaz Mateshvili said.

The village attorney said the woman is taking medical treatment in Tsnori hospital where she was delivered by medical emergency brigade. Law enforcement bodies of Tsnori are working to estimate reasons of the infant’s death.
