Chairman of Gori City Council Cane decision

Chairman of Gori City Council changed his mind to fire Natia Omadze and appoint Irakli Okruashvili on the position of the chairman assistant. The Chairman Ilia Metreveli told journalist about it himself. 

Natia Omadze said Ilia Metreveli had asked her twice to write resignation notice and promised to find alternative position in the council. It is noteworthy that Natia Omadze had passed the competition of the assistant to the city council chairman. 

“The chairman called me and asked to write resignation notice but I refused; but I said he had right to issue an order on my dismissal. Supposedly they will write order to fire me but I do not know what will be the motive. I am going to appeal the court and defend my rights,” Natia Imnadze said.

On March 11, chairman Ilia Metreveli really planned to fire Natia Omadze. He confirmed the information and noted that he cannot find better advisor than Irakli Okruashvili. But on March 15, Ilia Metreveli told humanrights.ge that he had changed decision.

“I took into account the fact that Natia Omadze had passed the competition for the position of the assistant to chairman and considering this fact I did not sign the order on her dismissal,” the chairman said.

Irakli Okruashvili also confirmed the information about his appointment on the position of the assistant to the chairman and noted that if somebody believes his/her right was breached, can appeal the court. However, he changed the position in few days and noted that he was not going to occupy anybody’s place.

Personnel changes started after the impeachment of the chairman of the City Council and his deputy. As a result of secret ballot, member of Irakli Okruashvili’s Georgian Party Ilia Metreveli was elected to the position of the chairman. He announced that instead Natia Omadze and Giorgi Aptsiauri he would appoint Irakli Okruashvili and Kakha Ergemlidze on the position of the assistant to the chairman. But he changed the decision in few days. Ilia Metreveli said the former defense minister Irakli Okruashvili will be his advisor.
