Majoritarian MP from Kaspi municipality Elguja Gejadze died last year in the car-accident. For that reason, by-election was scheduled in Metekhi majoritarian election district and pre-election preparations also started.

Secretary General of the Georgian Dream Kakha Kaladze nominated Alika Merebashvili to be the majoritarian candidate from the ruling party.

“By-elections will be held in Metekhi village on May 22. We have presented our candidate, who is a local person. He was nominated by the villagers. We are convinced in our victory. It is very important elections and I am sure the Metekhi population will vote for the Georgian Dream’s candidate because they have nominated him,” Kakha Kaladze said during the meeting with locals in Metekhi.

“Short time is left before elections. I promise the population to address their problems,” Alika Merebashvili, the candidate, said.

Kaspi district former governor Oleg Iadze also attended the presentation of the majoritarian candidate.

“Unfortunately our village has lost very good citizen and MP. While I was the district governor, Alika Merebashvili was my attorney in the village but after I quitted the position, he was also fired – it was a mistake. I think the district administration made mistake but as you see now, everything was improved,” Oleg Iadze said.

United National Movement will also have a candidate in the by-elections in Metekhi though they have not nominated anybody yet. The position of other political parties about participation in the by-elections is not known yet.
