New Project by Human Rights Center

Human Rights Center commenced a new project “Monitoring of 2018 Presidential Elections and ICC Investigation in Georgia.” 

The project has two directions: 1) promotion better defense of rights of victims of 2008 August War and monitoring ongoing investigation of the ICC in Georgia; and 2) monitoring of the election day of 2018 Presidential Elections in Georgia.

The project includes legal aid for the victims of 2008 August War, media advocacy of their problems/needs through publishing articles, monitoring of the ongoing investigation of the ICC into alleged war crimes during the August war and advocacy of the victims’ rights through elaboration of the recommendations. In the frame of the project, the HRC team will visit IDP settlements to provide the victims with information, to study their problems and advocate them on national and international levels.

In the frame of the project, HRC will observe 2018 Presidential Election in conflict affected villages of Shida Kartli and villages inhabited by ethnic minorities in Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions. The violations observed during the monitoring of the pre-election period and the Election Day will be reflected in the report. The news and articles will be prepared about election process and observed violations, which will be published on the online edition of Human Rights Center – www.humanrights.ge.
