Georgia May Submit the List of Chechen Refugees to Russia

Media News. Georgia is ready to provide Russia with all the information regarding Chechen refugees living in Pankisi Gorge.

According to the statement made by the minister of Internal Affairs Irakli Okruashvili, law-keeping bodies of Georgia may submit to the Russian republic the list of Pankisi Gorge inhabitants for any kind of inspection.

Okruashvili has rejected the overspread information, according to which Achemez Gochiaevi, suspected in the explosions of houses in Moscow and Volgodonsk in 1999, who is searched for at the moment is hiding himself in Pankisi Gorge.

On September 13, Richard Miles, the ambassador of USA to Georgia has also confirmed the doubt of Russia, that there do exist bases of terrorists in Pankisi Gorge. Though, Richard Bower, the representative of USA state department flatly denied this information the same day.

According to him, as a result of joint efforts of USA, Russia and Georgia, Pankisi Gorge does not represent the terrorists’ shelter any more.

Note: Employees of Internal Affairs’ Ministry and Security completed the inspection of Chechen refugees’ documents in Pankisi Gorge at the end of September. 2 thousand men have undergone this inspection.
