Public Defender Demands Investigation of Beating

Tbilisi.14.12.04. Media News.Sozar Subaru, Georgian Public Defender addressed General Inspection Office with recommendation to investigate the fact of beating detained Iago Nebieridze.

On December 10, Giorgi Arakishvili, representative of the Public Defender to Shida Kartli saw 22-year-old Iago Nebieridze beaten severely in pre-detention isolator.

The detainee said that he had been severely beaten by the officers of Gori Department of Interior Ministry demanding from him to confess his guilt. Moreover, he was threatened that if he voiced the fact he would have serious problems.

In an interview with Media News Sopho Kereselidze, Press Secretary of Public Defender said that Iago Nebieridze does not know the names of the people who beat him, but he says it won’t be difficult for him to recognize them.
