The Head of the Financial Police Brings His Apologies to the Public

The Head of the Financial Police Brings His Apologies to the Public

On 16 June, the financial police and a subdivision of the Special Forces conducted a special operation on the Nikala fast food branch on Gamsakhurdia Street. The law-enforcement bodies searched for financial violations for two hours. Before the operation began, both restaurants were packed, and in one of the rooms, a child’s birthday party was being celebrated.  The sight of armed and masked people terrified the diners.  Documents and computers were taken from the restaurant.

Public Defender Sozar Subar commented that two people were enough to close down the computer and take it with them.  He assessed the operation very negatively.

Georgian MPs also agree with the Public Defender. According to Zviad Dzidziguri, law-enforcement bodies should not behave like terrorists. They have no right to spread panic among the populace.
Beso Jugheli is also displeased with the way the operation has been conducted, stating that any person familiar with computers would be able to get relevant information from them.

David Kezerashvili, the head of the financial police, conveyed a public apology for yesterday’s operation and promised that all those responsible for ordering such an operation will be identified and strictly punished.
