“Ossetians Were Beating Us, Asking What Kind of Weapons We Have”

Population living at the border of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict zone is in panic. Inhabitants of Georgian and Ossetian villages are afraid of the war to start.

Inhabitants of the village Ergneti say that responsible persons for the complicated situation are the members of Separatist Government. According to them, Ossetians shoot, beat and kidnap every Georgian, who goes to field, forest or to the church.

Niko Doijashvili, 22, inhabitant of the village Ergneti talks about the incident, when Ossetians opened fire to him and to his friends, who had fest in the yard of a church. “It was evening, we were eating in the yard of church. Suddenly, someone opened fire. We were hiding under the table. Fortunately, no one was injured. After that we avoid to go to the church. We are not sure that the incident will not happen,” says Doijashvili.

According to Ergnetians, it is not safe to go to fields as well. Eye witnesses talk about beating of Georgian farmers from Ossetians.

Niko Doijashvili: “We were working in the field, when Ossetians came. They started to beat us and asking: when your government is going to start a war? What kind of weapons you have, etc. At last one of the shepherds saw and helped us. He knew Ossetians and asked him to let us go. They did so”.
