City Centre for the Children’s Rights Protest Giorgi Zerekidze’s Imprisonment

March 20, 2007

Tbilisi. 19.03.07. Media News. Tbilisi City Hall Centre for the Children’s Rights protest the verdict passed by the Appeal Court on Zerekidze’s case.

According to the centre, UNICEF, various public organizations, deputies of the Georgian Parliament and the Tbilisi Municipality petitioned to the Court to protect Zerekidze’s interests.

According to their information, groups that decided to petition to the court, had thoroughly studied the case materials and they considered it was possible to make positive changes in it.
“The Appeal Court passed a vague verdict. The decision violates the rights of the child and breaches the convention of the rights of child as well as the laws of Beijing, Erriad and our country,” said representatives of the city centre.

The centre calls upon all corresponding bodies to alter the verdict, defend Zerekidze’s rights and the prestige of the Georgian Judiciary.
