Contingent of Georgian Armed Forces Will Increase until 32 000

Tbilisi.10.09.07.Medianews. The contingent of Georgian Armed Forces will increase. The initiative was introduced by Georgian President, Mikheil Saakashvili. Today, Dimitri Kitoshvili, Parliamentary Secretary of the President, introduced the Parliament with legislative initiative.
Nika Rurua, deputy chairman of the Defense and Security Committee within the Parliament, said the initiative was urgent. He added that it was caused by the necessity of Georgian Armed Forces’ participation in international operations as well as because of situation in the country. With the new initiative, current four professional unit will be added by the fifth unit of 2 500 soldiers. Consequently, the number of contingent will reach 32 000.

Nika Rurua stated that the contingent of the armed forces will soon increase. Meanwhile it is necessary to establish corresponding legislative base. According to Nino Burjanadze, the Chairwoman of the Parliament, it is the question, immediate discussion of which will not cause any problems in the future.
