About 150 tanks took destination towards Senaki from Upper Abkhazia at 7:00 PM. In parallel to it, about 40 trucks crossed central motorway of Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze in the direction of Enguri River. The trucks were loaded with the stuff robbed from Poti and Senaki Georgian military bases. Zugdidi residents greeted Russian soldiers with scolding. The city is paralyzed. Most part of inhabitants has fled from Zugdidi. Population is panicked in the expectation of up-coming military aggression.

An Appeal of the Human Rights Center
August 8, 2008
Telecommunications with representatives of the Human Rights Center’s Shida Kartli office have become impossible since the breakout of on-going hostilities in the Tskhinvali region. We received the information about wounded and dead people from both Georgian and Ossetian side before the communication problems. Official information about injured people is not being delivered. A short time ago, Georgian president declared total mobilization of the armed forces. According to the Georgian Defense Ministry Russian air-forces are bombing the villages round Tskhinvali. The Human Rights Center is deeply concerned over the current situation in the conflict zone and calls upon international organizations for a rapid reaction.

IDPs Shivering Under Polyethylene in Zugdidi District
May 30, 2008
IDPs compactly settled in the village of Rukhi in Zugdidi district, are only five kilometers away from their homeland. It has been fifteen years already for IDPs from the Chuburkhinji district – they have been residing in two-storied building of former department store. All this time rain is leaking from their roof. Living in the damp room where windows do not have glasses is getting unbearable. During rain the inhabitants of the building hide under the polyethylene sheeting. Political hope appears not to be an option, as the government could not find time for them before elections either. The IDPs have applied to various institutions with the request to cover their shelter with some kind of permanent roof.

If indeed staged by Georgian authorities themselves, the incident is a disturbing example of cynicism, playing on the tragedy that befell the victims of the Abkhaz conflict, risking the lives and health of innocent civilians for political gain.

Abkhazia Way
April 17, 2008
“Georgia, We Love You,” write Abkhazian Children (in Russian). “Abkhazia is our land and we must return it - these words are often heard in Georgia. Unfortunately, we speak less about the people than about the larger events that control their lives. When I arrive in Sokhumi I am often asked whether we want Abkhazia if it is empty of the Abkhaz people. And I do not know what to answer because I feel we have not settled ourselves what we in fact want-to get the land back or reconcile with the people,” said Mrs. Esma who was born in Abkhazian family and now she is a mother of Georgian children and lives in Tbilisi.
