Roads are often blocked in the villages located near the Tskhinvali region because of heavy snow, creating serious problems for local citizens’ transportation needs. Whilst roads in the Georgian villages of the Gori district, located close to Tskhinvali, are more or less satisfactory, roads in the villages of Kareli and Kaspi districts were last repaired in 1980s.

Zviad Jankarashvili, nephew of Tamaz Tamazashvili—father-in-law of Irakli Garibashvili, Minister of Internal Affairs—now occupies the position of Head of General Inspection at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Additionally, though Garibashvili’s brother-in-law Aleksandre Tamazashvili does not work at the Ministry, he makes decisions regarding personnel changes in police offices and certain public agencies in the Kakheti region.
