Khertvisi is a village in the Aspindza Municipality. It is twelve kilometers away from the district center. There are fifty-five families in the village. Most part of the villagers was resettled in here from Dusheti, Zestafoni and Terjola Districts.

Population of the village of Uflistsikhe in Gori District still faces the danger of epidemics. The problem originated from the canalization system which is out-of-order. In summer, after permanent rains, excrement leaks out of the overfull canalization system and reaches the yards and wells of the villagers.

In Kakheti, Local Government Cooperates with Criminal Authorities

“Criminal authorities, who have influence on districts, will be imprisoned nevertheless they commit crime or cooperate with organized criminal groups,” said the president and soon after this statement law enforcers detained many criminal authorities in many districts and Kakheti was among them. On the one hand it seems the government fights against the criminals; however according to the reliable sources, not only businessmen but representatives of the local authority also pay money for Obshchiak, collected money for criminal purposes. Moreover, the high ranking officials try to threaten journalists in the name of criminal authorities.

Accused for Having Stolen a Audio-Cassette Faces Seven-Year-Imprisonment

Nika Fifia, a resident of the Tsalenjikha District. was imprisoned for having stolen a cassette which costs three lari. Khvicha Khevsuriani, the lawyer for the accused, said that the accusation is groundless and demands to release the detainee immediately.
Mentally Disabled People Might Be Imprisoned Again

Mentally disabled Archil Surameli and Zurab Janezashvili might be sent to prison again. Both of them were bailed for 6-6 thousand lari according to Gori District Prosecutor, Kakha Muradashvili’s mediation. Those people were placed in prison until they pay the bail. Human Rights Center revealed the situation several weeks ago.
Elderly Years in Darkness

She served the state all her life but now she spends the rest of her life in the darks. Seventy-year-old Tina Bibiluridze has not had electricity for two years already. Her pension of 38 lari is enough for medicines only.

On June 26 many countries throughout the world, Georgia among them, celebrates International Day in Support of Torture Victims. “Together against Torture” –it is a slogan under which many countries join to fight against the torture. In Tbilisi Human Rights Information and Documentation Center in collaboration with Psycho-social and Medical Rehabilitation Center for Torture Victims held demonstration under the slogan.
Feeble People Are Fed Only After Leaving Their Finger Prints

Old Tbilisi Administrative Board installed a special apparatus for taking finger prints in the free canteen in Leonidze Street. It means that feeble people will receive food only after they leave finger print in the canteen. The poor people consider it is a dishonest activity and they are not going to obey the order. The Administration Board does not see any reasons for panic in the situation.
Tskhinvali University Administration Threatens Students

“Revolutionary” students of the Tskhinvali University are being “kicked out” from the University. It is third-year-students’ estimation about the situation at the university. According to the board of the university, those people who finished third year will have to study during the whole summer in order to finish the fourth year at extreme speed before September.
Because of “Principles” of Adults, Children Remain Homeless

Under-age children, eight-year-old Nika and five-year-old Ia Kikavas remain homeless because of principles of the adults. Batumi City Court has been discussing the argument between the children and their uncles, Temur and Vaza Kikavas. They argue about the estate inherited from the grandfather. The children have their right violated because of their parents.

Investigative Department of Revenues within the Georgian Ministry of Finances raids the district Administrative Boards in Kakheti region. According to the Kakheti Office of the Investigative Department, they are carrying out preliminary investigation on criminal case on appropriating the state budget. High ranking officials of the Gurjaani District Municipality and Administration are suspected for the crime. The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the prevarications.
Gori Patrol Policemen Violate Georgian Constitution

In Gori, patrol policemen’s “exceeded” effort has bothered people. People, driving cars unknown to patrol policemen, are detained by law enforcers though they do not breach traffic rules. There are permanent queues in front of the Regional Department of the Patrol Police where people wait to be tested on drug addiction.
Eighty-year-old Old Man Is Judged for Contradicting the Testimony

Judge accused Shakhzad Vanadze, a resident of the village of Gelauri in Khulo District, for contradicting the testimony as a witness. Vanadze said that he could not make a testimony because he had not witnessed the crime and had no information about it. According to the accusation, Vanadze shall be sentenced to four-year-imprisonment.
Bread Is Main Consumer Commodity for Most Population

According to experts’ 2006 assessments, minimal salary in governmental institutions was 220 lari and in private offices it amounted to 190 lari. The living wage of a family is 175 lari. Nevertheless, consumer commodities in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region increase every year. The experts assess that the villagers’ income is over living wage.
Georgian Occupies the First Tier of Modern Slavery

American State Department published the 2007 report on World Trafficking. According to the report, Georgia has moved along with one step regarding the fight against the modern slavery and now it is on the first tier. In 2006 we were in the second tier and earlier we occupied the third one.
Will Nobody Be Punished for the Tragedy Which Ended With Death?!

Three people died in Gurjaani on the construction which was carried out through violating security norms. Tamaz Kavlashvili, Vasiko Abesadze and juvenile Imeda Sisiauri died under ruins. They were building a wine-cellar in the yard of Zurab Ferishvili, former partner of the Air Company “Georgian Airways”. Regarding the accident, criminal case was launched at the Internal Ministry’s Gurjaani Office; however, victims do not bring suit against the employer and the investigation might be dropped.

Journalists from the Samegrelo Region oppose the initiative of the Legal Committee of the Georgian Parliament. The draft law is about prohibition of audio recording of the court hearings. The journalists say that the prohibition will prevent them to carry out their journalistic activities and to introduce the society with complete information.
Budget of State Defense Has Increased into 442 Million Lari

Georgian Parliament has voted through the budget of the state defense which was increased into 442 million lari. Although the opposition does not vote for the budget, it could not prevent the parliament to enact the budget. The opposition demanded the transparency of the budget and wanted to be explained why defense needs such great funds. The answer was too simple-everything is transparent what must be public.
