The Parliamentary Committee of Human Rights and Civil Integration on its October 31 meeting discussed the repeated absence one of its members, MP Mariam Sajaia. Committee members noted that despite the fact that Sajaia stated family matters as the reason for her inability to attend parliamentary meetings, her absence might be caused by her current post-graduate studies at George Washington Unversity's Law School in Washington, DC.

Two Sides of the New Bill

Last week, Parliament of Georgia started discussion of the new draft-law. It aims to add a special article to the Administrative Code, according to which a person will be fined for public insulting of religious affiliations of a person. The bill was largely criticized by nongovernmental organizations and MIA, its initiator, withdrew it back. MPs from the majority hope the shortcomings will be removed from the bill for the next hearing.

Tents have been set up in front of the former building of the Rustavi Kindergarten # 35. Six families evicted from the building continue living in the tents. The building, where indigent families voluntarily lodged in, now belongs to the Ministry of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Refugees and Accommodation and it is being renovated to assign to IDPs.

Strong wind has roofed off several residential blocks in Gori for the past one month. Majority of those buildings had roofs rehabilitated last year. The companies, winning the tenders of local government, rehabilitated the roof. However, a year later nobody can find those companies – part of them was abolished; owners of the second part have fled abroad.

Observers of Human Rights Center to Monitor Presidential Elections in Eight Regions of Georgia

Human Rights Center will monitor Presidential Elections in eight regions of Georgia: Kakheti, Imereti, Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli, Adjara, Guria, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Samegrelo. On October 27, 75 observers of the organization will be mobilized in the towns and villages of 29 districts throughout Georgia.
